Tips When Shopping for Dog Clothes

Many dog owners love to dress up their dogs in stylish outfits.  If you’re shopping for dog clothes, what important things should you consider?
 dog shirt with collar
Comfort.  It’s very important for the dog to be comfortable, relaxed, and happy when wearing a piece of clothing. If you live in a place where the temperatures can be extremely cold, clothing your dog is a great way to help them keep warm. Make sure the piece of clothing fits well, and that the texture does not make your dog feel scratchy or irritated.
Different dog breeds have varying body structures so if you want to purchase online, it’s better to see the actual piece worn or modeled by a dog of the same breed as your pooch. For instance, if you have a small dog, you may look for shops that specialize on dog apparel for small dogs.
Type.  Different styles of dog clothes are easily available such as tee-shirts, polo shirts, skirts, pajamas,  vests, sweaters, turtlenecks, jackets, etc. There are also types of clothing that are especially made for specific purposes such as reflective jackets that make it easy to spot dogs in the dark and thermal jackets for winter seasons.

Design.  The design and color of the outfit are elements that should be considered too.  Of course, you want your dog to look great and fashionable!  However, make sure that the embellishments on a piece of clothing will not become choking hazards.
Buttons, beadwork or small decorations may fall out and the dog may accidentally choke. Simple clothing pieces can still look fabulous by matching it with accessories like scarves, bandanna, or preppy dog collars.
Budget. The price is an important factor when buying dog clothes.  There are shops that sell pet outfits and costumes at outrageously steep prices but you should be able to find comfortable, well-designed, high-quality clothes for pets at reasonable prices if you take your time to do comparison shopping.

Dog-proofing Your Home Tips

Every dog owner must learn about dog-proofing. Dog-proofing means making your home a safer place for both you and your pet. Here are some tips:

Use doggie doors and gates (with security) for entrances or spaces that you want to block off.

Make sure that there are no choking hazards (screws, paper clips, rubber bands, coins, needles, and other small things) lying around on the floor especially if you have puppies. If you have a lawn, make sure that there are no hazardous chemicals or materials on the ground or within reach.

If you’re going to have a party at home, don’t forget to consider both your guests’ and dog’s safety especially if there will be kids. You may want to confine your dog or hire a dog sitter for the day.

Give your dog his own toys that he can safely play with.

If your floor is carpeted, vacuum daily to get rid of fur and dander.

Groom your dog regularly.

For furniture, choose materials that are durable and easy to clean. Use slipcovers that are stain-resistant and easily washable.

Ceramic tiles are ideal materials for flooring because they are scratch-resistant, stain-resistant, and easy to clean.

Don’t leave your personal belongings on the floor or within your dog’s reach. These things carry your scent which makes them doubly appealing to your dog.

Tip: If your dog grabs one of your things, don’t try to chase your dog to get it back. Instead, let your dog chase you by offering a toy to exchange for your stuff.

Never leave food on tables or countertops.

Make sure that the garbage can is securely closed and out of your dog’s reach. Dogs have a natural tendency to raid the trash bin because of the smell from leftover foods.

Tip: If your dog happens to be raiding your trash, make a sharp, sudden sound to stop him. However, never punish your dog or inflict pain as this can cause behavioral problems.

Train your dog from start. Teaching your dog about good behavior is important not just for your safety and convenience but for your dog’s safety as well. Teaching your dog about boundaries is the best way to protect him from possible harm and health hazards.

Choosing the Right Feeder or Dog Bowl

When buying a feeder for your dog, don’t simply buy a cheap one. Choose a dog bowl that is safe, durable and made for your dog. Since dogs come in different sizes and dogs have different personalities, certain dog bowls are made for specific breeds.

It’s important to choose a dog bowl that’s easy to clean, chew-resistant, spill-proof, and one that doesn’t tip off. Consider the following factors when buying a feeder for your pet dog:

The Right Shape. Make sure that your dog’s feeding bowl does not block his vision while eating or drinking. If you have a dog with a short snout, you may choose a shallow bowl.

Meanwhile, taller dogs need taller bowls. A tapered bowl with a wide base will also keep it from moving around or tipping off. If your dog doesn’t seem comfortable with his feeder, perhaps you got a bowl in the wrong shape.

The Right Size. Dog bowls can either be small, medium or large to match small, medium and larger dogs. Make sure that your dog’s feeder is just big enough to fill one serving of his meal.

The Right Material. Avoid a feeding bowl that is made up of lightweight plastic as this easily tips-off and can be chewed by your dog. Don’t go for glass or ceramic either as these have the tendency to break and may cause harm.

The ideal material is a stainless steel dog bowl with rubberized bottom to give it more stability. Also, dogs will not chew steel. A heavy-weight ceramic dog bowl may also be considered if you want one with designs or color. However, take note that there is also a risk of breakage.

Elevated feeders. You may also consider getting an elevated feeder especially if you have an older dog so he can eat or drink more comfortably and without leaning. This type of feeder is also great for taller dogs with long ears so they can eat and drink without messing up or getting their ears wet.

Ideal Corporate Gifts for Dog Lovers

Companies give away freebies for various reasons. Corporate gifts are used to promote new products and services, to make customers feel more special, to motivate employees to work harder, to show appreciation for both clients and employees, and to celebrate special occasions such as company anniversaries, recognition, the launching of a new product, the opening of a new branch, and other important events.

When giving corporate gifts, consider the timing, the appropriateness of the gift for the occasion, the recipients, and the presentation. Although you want to use these items to advertise your brand name, don't forget to add a personal touch to make the items more memorable.

If you're looking promotional products or corporate gifts, here are stuff worth checking out. Being a dog lover, I tried searching for giveaways with dog themes and found these:

This silver dog bone key chain holder

These cool awareness dog tags that comes in a variety of colors

I like this multi-purpose carabiner that is shaped like a dog bone

This non-toxic tennis ball for dogs

And this adorable 27" stuffed St. Bernard
